Origin Homes, a homebuilder based out of West Des Moines, is breaking ground on five homes in the Catherine Farmer development in Conrad on June 11.
"We're already seeing a fantastic welcome to Conrad and Grundy County, and we can't wait to start digging these homes. The goal is to build new, quality homes with a price point that's attainable for new homeowners, families and anyone looking for a new home in this community," said Matt Daniels, Director of Operations for Origin. "We anticipate construction to take a couple of months, and the City, chamber and community have been great collaborators to get this project off the ground."
As of May, one of the five homes has been sold.
"The community is excited to see this project come to fruition. A lot of hard work from all sides has gone into this process and the City of Conrad cannot wait to welcome Origin Homes into the community," said Luke Wilson, City Engineer for Conrad and Chairperson of the Development Committee.
"This partnership with Origin Homes marks a significant milestone in the life of Conrad. We are excited about the positive impact this will have by creating housing, impacting our local economy and infrastructure. We are excited about the positive impact it will have on the City of Conrad and the Catherine Farmer development," said Mayor Jeff Martin.
Origin is also building five homes in Knoxville's Veterans District, and three homes in Jefferson as part of their ongoing Rural Housing Initiative aimed at building homes in rural communities across Iowa to improve the housing market. Conrad, Jefferson and Knoxville were selected as the second round of communities in this initiative. Origin has built previously in Knoxville, Manning and Gowrie in 2023-24. Workforce housing tax credits, awarded from the Iowa Economic Development Authority, will be used to help offset the costs of the homes to homebuyers.
Home prices are slated to start in $290's and range up to $330's and are expected to be complete in early fall of this year. The homes will all be 2-and 3-bedroom ranches, some with finished basements, and all will have two car garages. Origin says if interested buyers reserve a home in the early stages of construction, finishes, siding colors and more can be customized inside and outside of the home.
